For the second consecutive year, the Kiwanis Wyoming County Fairgrounds in Meshoppen will play host to the Wyoming Valley Conference Cross Country Championship race on Wednesday afternoon.
The challenging course, which is home to Tunkhannock Area’s cross country team, will see action begin at 2 p.m.
Kicking off the action that afternoon will be the boys’ varsity race at 2 p.m., followed by the girls’ varsity race at 2:45 p.m.
The varsity runners will compete in a 3.1-mile loop around the fairgrounds, starting in the parking area.
Junior high teams will also be competing in the action with the girls’ race at 3:30 p.m., and the boys’ race at 4 p.m.
Junior high runners will race on a 2-mile course on the fairgrounds.
The Tiger boys are in contention for the championship, having gone 16-1 in the regular season, while the girls’ team looks to make a showing after a 14-3 regular season.
Tunkhannock Area coach Randy White said the course is one of the most challenging in the area, giving the District II championship course at Elk Lake, and the PIAA course in Hershey a run for their money.
