Meshoppen Borough supervisors voted Monday night to hire Sierra Crane as their new full-time police officer.
They decided at their November meeting to add Washington Township to their coverage of Meshoppen Borough, Meshoppen Township and Mehoopany Township.
These new responsibilities required them to hire a second police officer and another patrol vehicle to the borough.
Crane, who is a graduate of the Police Academy at Lackawanna College and has worked part time as a Tunkhannock Borough police officer, is looking forward to working in Meshoppen as she grew up in Meshoppen and is familiar with the area she will be patrolling.
She is hired for a 40-hour work week with benefits to start in 90 days at a salary of $24,916.
She was sworn in by Mayor Bruce Marshall.
Other business included discussion of past due sewer bills, liens on properties, borough repairs needed, impact funds from gas wells, and the passage of the 2013 borough budget of $236,175.
