Harshbarger Saga retold on Oxygen

The story of a woman who mistook her husband for a bear back in 2006 will get a re-airing on the Oxygen Network this Sunday night at 9 p.m.

Although Meshoppen’s Mary Beth Harshbarger was acquitted in 2010 for criminal negligence after killing her husband, the story line still attracts public interest.

Producer Michael Rogers working on behalf of Jupiter was in Wyoming County in August filming  a documentary series for NBC’s Oxygen Network called “Snapped” which he said profiles cases of women who have been accused of violent crimes.

The hour-long segment that airs Sunday is not scheduled for an encore showing, publicist Erin Styles said Monday.

She noted that in addition to retelling the circumstances of the shooting the production crew interviewed the shooter’s attorney, Paul Ackourey, and the victim’s father and siblings and one friend.

Two journalists who were interviewed included Robert Baker who covered the story for Wyoming County’s only newspaper- the Press-Examiner, after it first broke on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to the 2010 Newfoundland court proceeding, and Charles Wilkins who wrote an investigative article for Outdoor Canada magazine.
