The Tunkhannock Area boys’ basketball team faced a 59-54 loss from Wyoming Valley West at home on Saturday after the team was handed an 85-54 loss from Hazleton Area on the road on Thursday.

Against Valley West, the Tigers got off to a quick lead with a 14-9 run in the first quarter, before being outscored 17-9 in the second to be put to a 26-23 deficit at halftime.

In the second half, the Spartans led Tunkhannock 20-15 in the third quarter and despite a 16-13 run from the Tigers in the fourth, Valley West took the win.

Tunkhannock was paced by Brian Stephenson with 14 points while Jordan Faux scored 12, Jimmy DeWitt had 10 and Sean Soltysiak and Austin Yanora each had nine.

Hazleton game

The Tigers opened up to be outscored 19-11 in the first quarter and 20-9 in the second to trail 39-20 at the half.

In the second half, Tunkhannock was paced 27-12 in the third and despite a 22-19 run from the Tigers in the fourth, Hazleton picked up the victory.

Tunkhannock was led by Soltysiak’s 22 points while Faux added eight and Stephenson and DeWitt each chipped in six.
