ANDREW MUCKIN

Tunkhannock Area senior Andrew Muckin brought home a gold medal at 195 pounds in the Wyoming Valley Conference Championship wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Muckin defeated Pittston Area’s John Minich with a 9-8 decision in the finals to earn gold.

In the quarterfinals on Friday, Muckin pinned Hazleton’s Marcos Madera in 2-minutes, 24-second, to move on to Saturday’s semifinals.

In the semis, Muckin dispatched Crestwood’s Tyler Robinson, taking a 4-2 decision.

Ben Siegel took second place in the tournament at 152 pounds, suffering his first loss in the finals as Wyoming Valley West’s Derrick Simms took a 10-8 decision over Siegel.

In the quarterfinals, Siegel pinned Crestwood’s Mike Legg in 3:28, before pinning Meyers’ Johntea Nelson in the semifinals in 4:28.

Also medaling for the Tigers were Jake Richards (113), Dakota Quick (120) and Chris Packer (138), each taking fifth place.

Dalton Ray (145) suffered an injury in the fifth place match to finish out sixth, and Elliot Hammersly (106) was defeated in his fifth place match to take sixth.

Tunkhannock Area finished out in eighth place in the team standings with 96.5 points, while Pittston Area took home the team title with 178.5.
