Members of the Scranton Canoe Club met with Overfield Township officials Thursday to discuss expansion plans for its clubhouse next to the golf course.
Plans are to put a 750 square feet extension on a backside of an already existing 9,457 square feet clubhouse, located on the shores of Lake Winola, at an estimated cost of $260,000.
Joseph J. Guzek, who is a general contractor from Clarks Summit, spoke on behalf of the club about a plan.
“A plan is to have a new handicap accessible entrance for the clubhouse to accommodate the many area senior citizens who use it frequently,” Guzek said noting the body wanted to bring it up to the Americans for Disabilities Act standard.
That would mean modernized bathrooms for both men and women at a new entrance and an updated look of the building itself,”
In addition to the purposed plan, Guzek said there will also be a second floor which will have a ladies’ lounge area.
“This area will give ladies who visit the club a place to freshen up after a golf game,” Guzek said.
With the new addition, the club’s kitchen will also expand to give its workers more room to prepare food.
Also, there are plans of adding six additional parking spaces, three of which are handicap spaces located at the new entrance.
A meeting to take public input about the expansion is scheduled for Jan. 14 at7 p.m. at Overfield Township Municipal Building.
