This Saturday at Lackawanna Trail, there will be plenty of wrestling action as the Lions host their mid-season invitational tournament on Tunnel Hill.
This year’s tournament brings in a pool of nine teams including Lackawanna Trail, Blue Ridge, GAR, Nanticoke, Valley View, Elk Lake, Montrose and Whitehall.
This year’s format will consist of an individual bracketed tournament, It is double elimination, with wrestlers in first through fourth place being awarded.
There will also be an overall team champion, decided by points.
The tournament has been a tradition at Trail for more than 30 years. It was formerly known as the Dalton Lions Individual Tournament.
There will be three mats with wrestling starting at 9 a.m., after weigh-ins, which start at 7:30 a.m.
Two mats will be located in the high school gym, and the third will be in the high school wrestling room.
Wyoming Valley West captured the team title at last year’s tournament, with Lackawanna Trail finishing in fifth.
Lion head coach Mike Petherick said it should be a competitive tournament.
“Each team has something to bring to the table,” Petherick said.
However, he said that home field advantage and fan advantage should hopefully play a role in the Lions being successful.
Lackawanna Trail’s Lions will be led by Jeremy Greenley at 160 pounds, along with Cooper Rosiak at 152 and Justin Barber at 285.
Admission on Friday night will be $5 for adults and $3 for students. Lackawanna Trail students are free with a student ID.
