Tigers back on winning track

The Tunkhannock Area boys’ basketball team grabbed a 52-46 win over Coughlin on the road Friday after it picked up a 71-58 victory over the Dallas Mountaineers at home on Tuesday night.

The Tigers got ahead early on Friday, outscoring Coughlin 14-9 and held a 21-17 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Coughlin had a big 18-9 third quarter, but Tunkhannock used a 22-11 run in the fourth quarter to come back and win.

Brian Stephenson scored 18 points and Austin Yanora scored 17 to lead the Tigers. Adam Billings added seven and Sean Soltysiak had four.

Dallas game

The Tigers and Mountaineers were tied 14-14 after the first quarter, but Tunkhannock took a 37-35 lead into halftime.

Tunkhannock then used a big, 21-9, third quarter, led by 12 points from Sean Soltysiak, to come away with the victory.

Soltysiak finished with 19 points, while Brian Stephenson led the Tigers with 20 on the night. Austin Yanora, Jimmy DeWitt and Jordan Faux each added eight.
