The Tunkhannock Area boys’ basketball team took a 65-57 victory over Berwick at home on Friday after the team was handed a 73-55 loss from Wyoming Valley West on the road on Tuesday night.

Against Berwick, the Tigers opened to outscore Berwick 20-12 in the first quarter and held a 32-26 lead by halftime.

In the second half, Tunkhannock paced the Bulldogs 19-10 in the third and held out for the win despite a 21-14 fourth quarter for Berwick.

Brian Stephenson scored 22 points and Austin Yanora had 16 to help the Tigers snap a two-game losing streak. Sean Soltysiak added 12 points while Jordan Faux had nine.

Against the Spartans, the Tigers opened to lead the Spartans 14-12 after the first quarter and 33-30 at halftime.

However, Valley West outscored Tunkhannock 27-15 in the third and 16-7 in the fourth to take the victory.

Brian Stephenson paced Tunkhannock with 19 points while Austin Yanora and Sean Solystiak each dropped in nine.
