Manglaviti brings home medals

Tunkhannock Area freshman Morgan Manglaviti finished in second place overall in the 100 freestyle at the District II Class AA championships in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Manglaviti finished the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.11 to take silver and earn a berth to the state meet at Bucknell University on Mar. 15-16. Top finisher was Holy Redeemer’s Rachel Finnegan at 54.91.

A day earlier, Manglaviti finished fourth in the 50 free to earn her first district medal with a time of 25.75. Top finisher was Holy Cross’ Megan Carey at 25.56.

Ashley Kasmierski made a trip to the podium taking fourth place in the 100 breaststroke on Saturday with a time of 1:14.59.

Joining her was tammate Cheyanne Kasmierski who finished fifth at 1:14.67. Top finisher was Abington Heights’ Sydney Gualtieri at 1:09.80.

Tunkhannock’s girls’ 200 medley relay team of Kandis Venn, Ashley Kasmierski, Morgan Manglaviti and Cheyanne Kasmierski took fourth at 1:55.94. Holy Redeemer finished first at 1:52.07.

The Tiger 200 free relay team of Kandis Venn, Elissa Stretch, Cheyanne Kasmierski and Morgan Manglaviti also medaled taking fourth at 1:47.10. Holy Redeemer finished first at 1:41.69.

Elk Lake’s Lady Warriors didn’t make an appearance on the podium, with the team’s best finish coming from the 400 free relay team of Kati VanEtten, Lainey Bedell, Sunny Griffiths and Leah Ofalt in 12th at 4:22.09.

Individually, Ofalt topped the team with a 16th place finish in the 100 free.

Other finishes for Elk Lake’s girls included: 200 medley relay (13th), 200 free relay (14th), 400 free relay (12th), Leah Ofalt (16th-100 free, 18th-50 free), Kati VanEtten (22nd-100 fly, 27th-50 free), Rebecca Sisson (28th-50 and 100 free), Lainey Bedell (31st-100 free), Audra Everitt (32nd-100 free)
