Summer camps on tap

There will be no shortage of athletic camps for athletes in Wyoming County to take part in during the summer months.
Most any sport will be accounted for with a variety of camps taking place at area schools.
Below is a list of the happenings at each of the county schools.
Keystone College will offer a range of athletic camps including a basketball camp from June 24-28 for boys and girls ages 7-15 at a cost of $175 per camper run by Giants coach Nevada Smith.
Day camp is a co-educational camp designed to teach the fundamentals of basketball to all skill levels. The camp will provide an exceptional opportunity for every camper to improve their basketball skills in a fun learning environment.
Coach Smith and his camp staff will provide daily individualized instructions to each camper. The camp will include 5 vs. 5 league play, daily contests, shoot-outs, and fundamental skill work. Every kid in camp will receive a camp T-shirt, shoe bag, and a basketball.
There will also be a basketball team camp June 29-30 at Keystone. The coast is $250 for one day (3 games) or $375 for two days (6 games). A two day event featuring teams from Pennsylvania and New York with certified officials for each game. The camp will use facilities at Keystone College and nearby Lackawanna Trail High School. Keystone will also host a pair of summer soccer camps on campus with the first session taking place July 8 through July 12, and the second session going on July 22 through July 26. Both camps will run from 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. each day and are open to players grades K through 10. For more information, contact Keystone women’s soccer coach Noel Cox at 945-8246.

Trail head basketball coach Andrew Kettel will host Coach Kettel’s Basketball Camp from July 8 through 11 from 12:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. for boys and girls fifth through ninth grade at Backcourt Hoops in Scranton. The camp focuses on the fundamentals, including shooting, ball handling and offense. The cost is $75 for each camper pre-registered ($85 walkup if space available). A Soccer Success Camp will be held from July 1 to 5 at the Misericordia soccer fields from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The camp will focus on learning successful skills and strategies. Specialized training includes attention, team and individual play, mini-games, drills and more. The cost is $115 for each individual and $105 for each additional child from the same family. Misericordia University will host a fIeld hockey skills camp, June 24-28. The camp includes individualized instruction, specialized training, expert coaches and players and an end-of-the-week evaluation. The camp is open to girls from grades 3-11 and costs $115. Misericordia University will host a baseball camp for players seven to 12-years-old, July 8-12, at Tambur Field. The camp will be from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily with an optional swim session until 3 p.m. The camp will include individualized instruction, specialized training, expert coaching and a t-shirt. Misericordia will host the 2013 Trevor Woodruff Basketball School for Boys in two sessions, June 17-21 and July 22-26. The camp is open to boys 8-to-15-years old and includes individualized instruction, specialized station training, team and individual play, guest speakers and a t-shirt. Misericordia University’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach Allison Kern and her staff will host the Back Mountain Girls Basketball Camp will be held in two sessions (June 24-28 and July 15-19) to develop essential fundamentals to take your game to the next level. Cost of the camp is $95 per session.
The Misericordia football program will host football camps on Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21, from 9;30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The first day of camp is a lineman camp and the second day is a skill camp. Both days are non-contact camps designed for high school student-athletes entering grades 9-12.The goal is to help develop the fundamental skills and techniques specific to the game of football. Camp St. Andrew
Camp St. Andrew is accepting registrations for the summer season.
Camps offered will be: girls’ basketball (grades 5-10) from July 7-12 or July 14-19; a resident girls’ camp for grades 3-10 will be offered on the same dates; a father/son weekend will be July 19-21 for dads and their sons ages 6-13; a boys’ basketball camp (grades 4-9) will be July 21-25.
