Elk Lake knocked off cross country perch
In a battle of unbeatens on their home cross country turf Tuesday (Sept. 24), the Elk Lake boys took it on the chin to Scranton Prep, while the Lady Warriors also lost to Holy Cross.
The Elk Lake boys did salvage three wins: against Montrose, 19-41; Blue Ridge, 15-50; and Holy Cross, 18-39, while losing to the Cavaliers, 17-44.
Scranton Prep’s Kyle Perry won the race in 17:10, 13 seconds ahead of Eddie Cumens, who took fourth overall and was the top finisher for the Warriors.
Also finishing in the Top 15 for Elk Lake were Hunter Bedell (9th), 19:07; Dalton Sherman (11th), 18:22; Dan Bell (13th), 18:48; and Seth Owens (15th), 19:14. The Elk Lake boys are now 12-1 on the season.
The EL boys swept the junior high meet with wins over Montrose, 20-37; Blue Ridge, 18-42; and Holy Cross, 15-49. Best time in that race was posted by EL’s Dakota Oswald at 13:14.
The Lady Warriors took three wins: against Montrose, 18-38; Blue Ridge, 17-42; and Scranton Prep, 23-32, while getting nudged by Holy Cross, 26-29.
Holy Cross’ Mackenzie Greenfield took the girls’ race in 19:58, nudging out Elk Lake’s top runner Kenzie Jones by nine seconds.
Also finishing in the Top 15 for Elk Lake were Justine Johns (6th) at 20:57, Katie Bennett (8th) at 21:02, Julie Van Etten (12th) at 21:31; and Lexi Hemenway (14th) at 21:51. The Elk Lake girls are now 12-1 on the season.
In junior high action, Holy Cross also pinned a 22-33 loss on Elk Lake girls. The Lady Warriors, however, beat Montrose, 16-43; and Blue Ridge, 15-50.
