Jr. field hockey also advancing in playoffs
The Lackawanna Trail junior high field hockey team grabbed a 2-0 victory over Northwest Area on Friday, Oct. 17, to make it through the first round of District playoffs.
It was to host Solomon Plains Tuesday, but the results of that game were not known at press time.
Trail also came out on top last week over Dallas on Wednesday, Oct. 15, in an overtime thriller.
Facing Northwest, Trail executed two of their six first half penalty corners to perfection to grab a 2-0 victory over the Northwest Rangers.
Kayley Kavetski scored off an assist from Aliza Furneaux and Cameron Crock rifled one in off a pass from Devin Holmes to give the Lady Lion defense all the cushion it needed.
Goalie Courtney Ditchey had three saves in the shutout.
Against Dallas, Shelby Croasdale one-timed a crossing pass from Morgan Curran with 2:49 left in the first sudden death period to give the 1-0 victory to the Lady Lions in the Wyoming Valley Conference Northern Division Title and a No. 1 seed in the upcoming District playoffs.
Lady defenders Furneaux, Chelsy Stuble, Croasdale, Ditchey and Kodi Rozanski have posted twelve shutouts in 14 games.
Ditchey recorded five saves to keep the Mountaineers off the board and midfielders Holmes and Crock turned in another stellar performance.
