A pair of swimming pool accidents within five days of each other claimed two Wyoming County toddlers.

County Coroner Tom Kukuchka pronounced Bryan Torres, 2, on Wednesday morning, and Gage Anthony Wells, 17 months, around mid-day Monday dead after the boys had wandered into an unattended pool area.

Kukuchka said that Torres wandered away from his mother at a residence about 200 yards east of Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhaannock Township went out on a report of a missing child.

The body was discovered around 8 a.m. in a newly constructed pool belonging to his great grandmother.

An autopsy on Thursday confirmed the drowning and “absolutely nothing was suspicious,” Kukuchka said, noting the child and his mother, Amanda Perry, recently moved in with the boy’s great grandmother.

Kukuchka said that on Monday in Windham Township, a large family was finishing its lunch when it was discovered that Gage was missing, but he was later found in the family’s pool.

Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Kukuchka said an autopsy would take place late Tuesday afternoon, and there was nothing suspicious.

“They were just terribly tragic accidents,” the coroner said.
