DUI charges against a Tunkhannock Area elementary school principal were bound over to Wyoming County court Thursday morning.
Joseph Patrick Moffitt, 47, of Tunkhannock, waived his rights to a preliminary hearing before District Judge John Hovan who set bail at $5,000 unsecured.
Moffitt was stopped by state police along Route 6 in Tunkhannock Twp. in the early morning hours of April 27, according to a police report filed by Tpr. Kevin Hibson of the Tunkhannock barracks.
The charges waived for county court include DUI, second offense; DUI with the highest rate of alcohol (BAC .16 and over), disregarding traffic lane and careless driving.
Moffitt also faced DUI charges for an incident in Tunkhannock Twp. on July 1, 2010.
Moffitt has been principal of Evans Falls Elementary School in Monroe Township and Mill City Elementary School in Falls Township since June 2009.
Prior to that, he was the assistant principal at Tunkhannock Area High School, a position he held since December 2006. The Tunkhannock native had previously held the same position at East Stroudsburg High School South.
He will be arraigned in county court on August 8.
