A 19-year-old man from Georgia is in jail after firing a BB gun in the Skyline Motor Inn, west of Tunkhannock.
According to court records Tunkhannock Township police responded to a report of criminal mischief late Wednesday morning (Mar. 8).
Sammy Uribe, of Lawrenceville, Ga., had been staying at the Skyline with another man.
A housekeeper at the Skyline told police she had witnessed two men shooting a BB gun earlier in the week but did not realize they were vandalizing the property.
When police arrived they discovered someone had shot two heating ventilation and air conditioning units, two dusk-to-dawn lights, various picnic tables, a building soffit, and the window to room 414 which “fortunately was not occupied at the time of the incident.”
The police located Uribe in his room at the motel, and while speaking with him, Tunkhannock Township Police Officer Corey Sidorek said he observed a Crossman Model PFM 16 BB handgun on the window sill along with numerous BBs.
Skyline owner Mary Lu Shaffer also provided police with 14 BBs that were located near the HVAC units and on the concrete under the dusk-to-dawn lights.
Uribe was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Plummer on Wednesday afternoon and faces felony charges of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure and criminal mischief, and a misdemeanor charge of recklessly endangering another person.
Judge Plummer set bail at $25,000, and unable to post it, Uribe was remanded to the Wyoming County jail.
A preliminary hearing for Uribe before Judge Plummer is set for March 21.
