The body of a man missing since mid-April was discovered last Wednesday (May 7) near the shoreline of the Tunkhannock Creek.
Around 6 p.m. ATV riders along the creek behind Lake Paper off Rt. 6 in Tunkhannock Twp. found the body and then notified police.
The body was recovered by Triton Hose Co. and Wyoming County EMA.
On Thursday, the body was positively identified by forensic pathologist Gary Ross through dental records as being that of Michael Nourse.
Nourse, 54, is a 1977 graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School, and had been declared missing when his pickup truck was found near Little Rocky Glen in Clinton Township on April 18. He had not been seen since April 15, and told acquaintances that he intended to take a trip down the Susquehanna River for possibly five to six days.
County coroner Tom Kukuchka said the cause of death was the combined effects of freshwater drowning and hypothermia and the manner of death was accidental.
