The Sherwood Gallery at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock welcomes the unique artwork of Dennis Gold, ‘Pictures in Wood’ with an opening reception on Friday, Jan. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m.

All are invited to meet Gold, of Lehman, and see firsthand his stunning photographic images on wood. Featured at the reception will be the band Shavertown 4, with Dennis on mountain dulcimer, Ed Pall on guitar, Mary Lou Mehl on hammered dulcimer and recorder, and Paul Mehl on banjo and mandolin, all on vocals.

Gold’s photography career began when he received a Kodak Star-Mite for his Bar Mitzvah. Picture taking slowly became a way of life. He took one photography course at Binghamton University taught by an art professor. He took two courses at the Maine Photography Workshops in the 1980s. Film photography has been his major means of expression and he still has a working darkroom. Alternative photographic processes such as Cyanotype and Platinum printing have also interested him.

Gold, comes from an artistic family with two older brothers who do watercolors, mixed media and digital manipulation. Bob Gold taught him some of the basics of digital manipulation that are utilized in his current work.

Works from the show, “Pictures in Wood” start out as digital files. They are manipulated using a computer and a mirror image is created that is printed on ordinary paper.

Images come from a variety of subjects and locales. The exhibit at the Dietrich will consist of some local subjects as well as others from more distant shores. There will be examples of both color and black and white. Landscape, still life, and portraits will be in the show.

The exhibit ‘Pictures in Wood’ will be at the Dietrich Theater through February. It can be viewed anytime movies are shown or by appointment. For information call 570-996-1500.
