Tunkhannock Area School Board members on Thursday accepted the retirement of Susan Bugno as the principal of Tunkhannock Area Middle School effective the end of the school year.

She was hired in 2006 and served until the fall of 2008 as assistant principal of Tunkhannock Area Middle School.

She left for a brief stint as assistant principal of Lakeland High School and then returned to the district in 2009 to become principal of Roslund and Mehoopany Elementary Schools. In 2016, she was appointed principal of the middle school.

During the reorganization part of the board meeting, William Prebola was elected temporary president of the school board, and he took nominations from the floor for officers for 2018.

Both Phil Farr as president and William Weidner as vice president were reelected, and those persons elected in November were sworn into office.

The board also agreed on a set of calendar dates for board meetings into 2018 and they will essentially follow a pattern that mirrors 2017.

Under new business there was a discussion about live streaming future meetings for the public.

After consulting with IT director Joe Kormis, superintendent Heather McPherson said she saw no reason why it couldn’t happen.

The board also approved:

*a resolution for a new athletic coaches evaluation form

*an overnight trip to Stowe, Vt., for the high school ski club, and

*gave approval to the use of a therapy dog which was at the meeting to be participating in reading intervention at Roslund Elementary School.

In the superintendent’s report,

*the resignation of high school football coach Jan Cechak was accepted, with board members Bill Prebola and Rob Parr adding their personal thanks;

*the retirement of high school custodian Geraldine Appleby was accepted; and

*appointments were approved for Karamae Killian ast Roslund general secretary, Ashley Dymond as Roslund reading assistantm and Kimberly Zimmer as Mill City reading assistant as well as Jacob Richards as junior high assistant wrestling coach;

*conference attendances were approved for Amanda Campbell, Melissa McCabe, Kaaron Yablonski, Kellie Wynne, Nadia Zukosky, and Marie Vieczorek.

The board’s Dec. 21 meeting will not be held.
