Camp Invention, a country-wide science camp, began its Tunkhannock run on Monday morning, and will continue until Friday.
Leslee Clark, a learning support teacher at Tunkhannock Area Middle School, said,"It's a hands on science based camp, where kids can create and discover."
"It teaches the kids to be creative and also helps with problem-solving," she adds.
There are usually around 50 kids that participate, with this year having 53 students. Children from first through sixth grade are able to learn more about the world of science and discovery, while having fun along the way.
"Community funds sponsor us so we're able to do this." Clark says.
The base of Camp Invention is in Ohio, and is run by the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
When asked why Clark likes working at Camp Invention, she says, "It's not so structured, but it's fun and creative, and it's so rewarding to see the kids' projects and see them so proud of themselves."
Jacob Toczko, an 11-year-old Tunkhannock Area Middle School student participating in the program, told us, "I'm having fun. I love science and I love inventing." He plans on coming back to the camp next year.
Some "modules" or classes, the kids can take at Camp Invention include: Viking Treasure Trek, Comic Book Science, Land Sled X-Treme, I Can Invent, and Recess Remix.
Camp Inventions makes another stop at Clarks Summit in July.
