After Mother Nature had her way with the high school sports schedule last week, the District 2 basketball playoffs have finally been set.

On the boys’ side of things in Class AA, Elk Lake earned the No. 1 seed after finishing the season at 20-1 and will host 16-seed Lakeland at 6 p.m., Thursday.

Lackawanna Trail was named the 8-seed and will open Class AA action today when it hosts Riverside at 7:30 p.m. In its last matchup, Trail edged the Vikings 57-56 after taking the lead with eight seconds to go.

Should either team advance, quarterfinals will be held on Saturday, semifinals will be on Feb. 26 and the finals and third-place game will be held on March 1.

In Class AAA action, Tunkhannock was named the 10-seed and will be on the road against Pittston Area at 7:30 tonight.

The Tigers, which finished with a 7-7 record in their division, will look to revenge their 60-52 loss to Pittston earlier in the month.

If Tunkhannock wins, the quarterfinals will be held on Friday, semifinals will follow on Feb. 25 and the finals and third-place game are set for Feb. 28.

For the girls, Lackawanna Trail was named the 7-seed and will also host Riverside at 6 p.m.before the boys’ game today.

The Lady Lions, which finished the second half with three wins in their division, lost 56-23 in their last meeting with Riverside.

Should they win, Trail will play the 2-seed Dunmore in the quarterfinals on Friday. The semifinals will be held on Feb. 25 and the finals and third-place game will follow on Feb. 28.

Tunkhannock’s girls’ team failed to qualify for the playoffs after losing its play-in game to Valley View, 47-44, and the Elk Lake girls team made a players’ decision not to participate.
