The Elk Lake boys cross country team improved to 13-4 in the Lackawanna League with three wins in a league meet at Carbondale on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

The Warriors won 20-35 over Honesdale, 19-39 over Western Wayne and 15-50 over Forest City.

Junior Peyton Jones led Elk Lake with a third place finish, crossing the line in 16:38, with senior Cody Oswald right behind in fourth with a time of 16:39.

Also for Elk Lake, senior Brett Carney finished in 10th in 17:37.

At the top, Montrose’s Brandon Curley set a course record on the 3.1-mile course, finishing in 16:14 at Merli-Sarnoski Park.

In the junior high meet, Elk Lake’s Jeremy Quinnan was top finisher in 10:58 as the Warriors picked up three wins.

In the girls’ race, junior Shyanne Bennett led Elk Lake with a second place finish in 19:52.

Also for the Lady Warriors, sophomore Sadie Bosscher placed fifth in 20:57 and senior Lydia Ofalt finished 13th in 21:46.

Honesdale’s Mackenzie LaMorte finished first overall in the race with a time of 19:16.

Elk Lake was scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 10, in a meet at Montrose.
