The Elk Lake boys cross country team improved to 16-4 in the Lackawanna League with three wins in a league meet at Montrose on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
The Warriors defeated Scranton, 23-28, West Scranton, 17-40 and Mid Valley, 16-44.
Junior Peyton Jones led Elk Lake with a second place finish in 16:31, with senior Cody Oswald right behind in fourth overall with a time of 16:39.
Also for the Warriors, senior Brett Carney placed 12th in 18:16.
Montrose’s Brandon Curley won the race and set a school record with a time of 16:18 on the 2.97-mile course.
In the girls’ race, junior Shyanne Bennett won the race in 20:10, just two seconds ahead of Montrose’s Georgia Smith.
Also for Elk Lake, sophomore Sadie Bosscher was close behind with a third-place finish in 20:45 and senior Lydia Ofalt took fifth in 21:56.
As a team, the Lady Warriors dropped to 0-16 with 15-50 losses to West Scranton and Scranton.
In the junior high race, Elk Lake’s Danica Wagner won the race and set a course record on the 1.62-mile course in 10:25.
