The Elk Lake girls soccer team defeated Mid Valley, 6-1, on Tuesday, Oct. 3, but lost 3-2 in double overtime at Carbondale on Thursday to fall to 3-6-1 in the Lackawanna League.

At Carbondale, the Lady Warriors surrendered a goal but tied the game less than a minute later when sophomore Katie Cusatis found the back of the net in the 36th minute.

Senior Grasyn Bushnell put Elk Lake ahead with a goal one minute into the second half, but Carbondale was able to tie the score in the 66th minute and earned its first win of the season by netting the game-winner just seconds into the second overtime.

Carbondale outshot Elk Lake, 11-10, and the Lady Warriors held the corners advantage, 2-1.

Junior Lucy Ives had a great game in the net, finishing with 15 saves for Elk Lake.

Against Mid Valley, the Lady Warriors scored three goals in each half en route to the Division IV win.

Bushnell got the scoring started with a goal in the 19th minute before sophomore Megan Bosscher scored off an assist from junior Maddie Gustin in the 26th minute to make it 2-0.

Cusatis increased the lead to three with a goal in the 32nd minute, and senior Eliza Bosscher made it 4-0 with a goal three minutes into the second half.

Gustin got herself on the board three minutes later before Kaleigh Mayer ended the Elk Lake scoring with a goal in the 73rd minute.

The Lady Warriors outshot Mid Valley, 23-14, and held the corners advantage, 5-3.

Ives finished with seven saves in the net and junior Brooke Arnold contributed four saves in the win for Elk Lake.
