Legion off to good start
The Tunkhannock Area senior legion posted three wins in four games to open its 2014 campaign.
In the season opener Thursday, the Tigers scored two runs in the sixth inning en route to a 3-2 win over Wilkes-Barre at Tunkhannock High School.
Ryan Weiss ripped a triple and drove in a run and Jordan Hannon drove in a run as a pinch hitter for the Tigers, who had just five hits.
Josh McClain had a double and Sean Soltysiak had a single and came around to score for Tunkhannock.
Aaron Holton went the distance on the mound for the Tigers, allowing just four hits and two earned runs on seven strikeouts and four walks.
The following day against Plains, Tunkhannock lost 18-8 but had some highlights at the dish.
McClain went 4 for 4 with six RBIs, while Sean Soltysiak and Lance Sherry each had two hits and scored three and two times, respectively.
The Tigers struggled on the mound however, as Soltysiak gave up nine earned runs on 12 hits, and left the game with Tunkhannock trailing 14-7.
But on Sunday, Tunkhannock responded by sweeping a double-header against Mountain Post, winning 7-0 and 3-0.
In game one, Tyler Weiss ripped two hits, scored twice and drove in a run for the Tigers.
McCain took his hot hitting to the mound, allowing just three hits while striking out four in the complete game shutout.
In the second game of the twin bill, Brett Soltysiak doubled and drove in two runs and Weiss allowed six hits in his complete game outing.
The Tigers will be back at it when they travel to Misericordia University to play Back Mountain at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 15.
