Local ballplayers earn honors
Lackawanna Trail sophomore catcher Mackenzie Duffy was named all-region and a slew of local baseball and softball players were recently named all-stars by The Times-Tribune.
Duffy provided quite the bat for the Lady Lions’ offense, hitting safely in 14 of 15 games, including final 10, and had nine multi-hit games, including six with three hits, en-route to a .500 batting average.
She also scored 25 times, including two or more runs in nine games, and was perfect in 15 stolen base attempts.
Several other players from the Trail and Elk Lake softball teams were named Lackawanna League coaches’ first-team all-star nominations for Division IV.
Trail senior outfielders Meghan Healey and Shelby Croasdale and junior Kerrigan Buck, first baseman, were named first-team, as well as Elk Lake junior and second baseman Bethany Ruhf.
Trail senior Nicole Rosa and junior Gabby Truesdale, along with Elk Lake senior Casey Tyler, juniors Lindsay Dudock and Becca Phillips and freshmen Catie McAlleer were named honorable mention.
Members of the Trail and Elk Lake baseball teams were also honored as part of the Lackawanna League Division IV coaches’ first-team all-stars.
Elk Lake seniors Nick Dudock, pitcher, and Tanner Reyan, outfield, were named to the first team, as well as Trail senior outfielder Jon Zedar and juniors Cooper Rosiak, catcher, and Liam Dougherty, utility.
Trail senior Bryan Tuft and sophomore Jared Phillips, along with Elk Lake senior Pete McGee were named honorable mention.
