The Lackawanna Trail field hockey team suffered a 4-2 loss to Wallenpaupack Monday afternoon in its season and home opener.
Trail got on the board first when senior Courtney Dwyer scored off an assist from Lauren Beemer at the 28 minute mark.
Freshman Belle Coleman then added to the lead after another assist from Beemer to put the Lady Lions ahead 2-0 with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
Wallenpaupack would get on the board with three minutes before halftime, then scored four minutes into the second half to tie the score.
A penalty stroke would give Wallenpaupack the lead with 17 minutes left in the game, and the Lady Buckhorns would add an insurance goal eight minutes later for the win.
Wallenpaupack outshot Trail 16-6 and held the corners advantage, 8-3.
Junior Samantha Baltrusaitis had nine saves for the Lady Lions in the loss.
