There’s the hope that Mother Nature will have grown tired in blanketing the area with snow once March rolls around, but one or two more tricks are sometimes left up her sleeve.
With the biggest storm of 2017 on the horizon, the PIAA postponed the first two days of the Swimming Championships and moved the competition at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium to start on Thursday with a compressed schedule.
The Diving Championships have also been moved back in its entirety, with Class 2A competition to be held Saturday and 3A competition to follow on Sunday.
There will be two sessions of final races only beginning with the Class 2A girls competition Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
The evening finals in boys Class 2A will follow at 7:30 p.m.
Events scheduled will be the 200-yard medley relay, 200 free, 200 individual medley, 50 free, 100 fly and the 200 free relay.
Swimmers will be back in the water Friday at 10:45 a.m. for the remainder of the Class 2A girls finals, with the boys Class 2A final session set for 3:30 p.m.
Events scheduled will be 100 free, 500 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 free relay.
The Tunkhannock Area boys 200 free relay of senior Mitchell Fowler, junior Alex Bushre, sophomore Dyllan Henning and freshman Davis Tidball will hit the pool Thursday night and is seeded 11th (1:30.93).
Bushre will also compete in the 50 free after qualifying by time (22.39) and is seeded 12th.
Junior Sawyer Aitken will represent Tunkhannock in Saturday’s diving competition for the second consecutive year and will be seeded 11th (391.55).
