The Tunkhannock Area boys basketball team picked up two division wins last week and evened out its record at 6-6 in Division 2 of the Wyoming Valley Conference.

The Tigers beat Coughlin, 66-40, on Tuesday, Jan. 30, then edged Wyoming Valley West on Thursday, 64-63, before dropping a home contest to Wyoming Area on Saturday night, 68-51.

With the wins, Tunkhannock improved to 9-8 overall.

Against Wyoming Area, the Tigers trailed by six after the opening quarter before seeing the Warriors extend their lead to 32-22 by the half.

In the third, Tunkhannock was unable to gain the upper hand and a 19-point fourth quarter wasn’t enough to make a comeback.

Junior Tyler Faux knocked down five 3-pointers and tied for a game-high 21 points, while senior Sean Harder added 14 in the loss.

At Valley West, the Tigers trailed by three after the opening quarter before battling back with 21 points in the second quarter to pull ahead, 32-29.

In the third, Tunkhannock kept its foot on the gas with a 20-point quarter to extend its advantage to five, then did just enough to hold off a fourth quarter push from the Spartans for the win.

Faux torched the nets once more with six 3-pointers for a game-high 24 points, junior Avery Billings chipped in with 11 and senior Evan Turner added 10 for Tunkhannock.

Against Coughlin, the Tigers took the early control to build a 19-5 lead after the first quarter and headed into halftime with a 30-12 lead.

In the third, the Tigers continued to hold serve on defense and put the game out of reach with a 22-point quarter.

Faux scored a game-high 24 points with six more 3-pointers, Harder added 17 and Turner chipped in seven to lead Tunkhannock.
