The Tunkhannock Area boys basketball team has hit a skid and is in the midst of a five-game losing streak.

The Tigers lost 58-43 at Meyers Friday night after falling 54-40 at Coughlin on Wednesday, Feb. 8, and 57-45 to GAR the day before.

Those three losses dropped Tunkhannock to 10-10 overall and to 6-9 and in last place of Division 2 of the Wyoming Valley Conference.

Against Meyers, the Tigers fell behind 18-12 after the opening quarter but cut the lead to three heading into the half.

Meyers would pull away in the third, however, outscoring Tunkhannock 19-10 before holding the Tigers to 10 points in the fourth for the win.

Sophomore Tyler Faux scored a game-high 21 points to lead Tunkhannock.

At Coughlin, Tunkhannock took the early 11-8 lead after the first quarter but headed into the locker room down one at the half.

In the third, the Crusaders pulled away with a 19-11 run and held on in the fourth to end its 17-game losing streak.

Senior Avery Newhart drained six 3-pointers en route to a game-high 21 points to lead Tunkhannock, while junior Sean Harder added 11.

Ten of the Tigers’ 11 field goals came from behind the arc.

Against GAR, the Tigers led 11-7 heading into the second and went into halftime with the score tied at 18-18.

In the third, the Grenadiers broke the game open, outscoring Tunkhannock 23-8 to put things out of reach.

Harder finished with 16 points to lead the Tigers.
