The Elk Lake boys basketball team picked up its first win of the second half by edging Susquehanna 66-64 in overtime on Tuesday, Feb. 7, to open the week.

However, the Warriors lost 47-33 to Carbondale in a non-league game Friday night and were beaten by Mountain View on Saturday, 56-47.

The losses dropped Elk Lake to 8-11 overall and to 1-3 in second half play in Division IV of the Lackawanna League.

At Mountain View, the Warriors took a 13-11 lead into the second quarter and extended their advantage to seven at the half.

The Eagles would pull to within one heading into the fourth quarter before turning things on to outscore Elk Lake 23-13 to rally for the win.

Junior Rierdan Reyan and sophomore Hunter Bomboy each scored 13 points to lead the Warriors.

Elk Lake’s junior varsity team edged out a 41-40 victory in the game before.

Sophomore Kevin Valvano scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Warriors.

Elk Lake was held to just two points in the opening quarter and seven in the second as the Chargers put the game out of reach with a 29-9 lead at halftime.

Reyan hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Warriors.

At Susquehanna, the Sabers led 8-7 after the opening quarter before both offenses came alive, with Susquehanna taking a 27-23 lead into halftime.

Elk Lake trailed by five heading into the fourth but went on an offensive tear for 26 points to tie the game at 56-56 and force overtime.

Both teams battled in the final quarter until sophomore Kevin Valvano played the hero, scoring his lone basket of the game on a layup with 10 seconds left in overtime to give the Warriors the victory.

Reyan hit seven 3-pointers and had a game-high and season-high 35 points for the Warriors.

Also for Elk Lake, junior Kobe Jayne scored 14 points and senior Ben Woolcock added seven.
